The body of the former Chairman of the Council of State Professor Kofi Awoonor has been flown home to Accra this afternoon.
Our correspondent at the Airport says government officials, family representatives and security personnel were at the airport to receive the body.
Speaking at the Kotoka International Airport, on Tuesday, Professor Kofi Anyidoho, a friend of the late Ghanaian poet and Spokesperson for the family, disclosed that the former Chairman of the Council of State will be buried in his hometown in fulfillment of his wish while alive.
Professor Anyidoho said a quasi-state funeral will be held for the late Professor on Friday, October 11, 2013.
He said Prof Awoonor had requested a strictly, statutory declaration...for a strictly private burial, which will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2013," Adding that the late Professor will be interred on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at his hometown, Wheta, in the Volta Region.
"It is going to be a private burial and can only be attended by formal invitations," he added.
Prof. Awoonor died on Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya following terrorist attack on the Westgate Shopping Mall.
