Convener for Inside Ghana, George Spenser Quaye has commended the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) for arresting a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Michael Omari-Wadie over the President Mahama pornographic picture saga.
Reports indicate he was picked up by officials of the BNI on Monday at the Kotoka International Airport on arrival from the United Kingdom.
The group, Inside Ghana was among some pressure groups that called for the arrest of Michael Omari-Wadie for allegedly doctoring a picture of President John Mahama with exposed genitals having sexual affair with an unknown woman in his office.
It will also be recalled that a National Democratic Congress (NDC) group calling itself the Coalition of Protection of Individual Liberties and Constitutional Rights (COPCOR) added its voice to the called for Omari Wadie’s arrest.
Speaking on Gold Power Drive onTuesday, George Spenser Quaye urged the security agencies to arrest persons who are bent on putting the peace enjoyed by the country in jeopardy and charges pressed if they are found guilty.
He said the picture circulating on social media about President Mahama is an “insult to the Presidency and Ghanaians” adding that this does not speak well about Ghana to the outside world.
Reports circulating in some sections of the media indicate that some members of the NPP have criticized the arrest of Michael Omari-Wadie.
Notable among them are Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong who called for party supporters to agitate for the release of Omari-Wadie and Sammy Awuku who described the arrest as a deliberate attempt by the security agencies to create tension.
But Lawyer Chris Akume supports the arrest of the former NPP chair at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.
He is therefore imploring the state security apparatus to investigate the photograph and punish all persons involved.
