Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has denied media reports that the hospital’s maternity ward was closed down over the weekend due to power failure.
Report circulating has it that, pregnant women due for delivery at the maternity wardwere redirected to the surgical department due to power outage.
But in an interview with Gold News, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Mustapha Salifu described the reports as misleading.
He said the hospital detected a problem with one of the underground cables that connects power to the maternity ward block which affected the theater adding that a repair work was done on the defaulted cable by the Electricity Company of Ghana on the same day.
Mustapha Salifu further stated that the repair work necessitated the move for emergency cases to be referred to the surgical block theaters for immediate attention.
He also noted that the hospital has about twenty-three (23) theaters hence the reports of the closure of the maternity block are untrue and should be disregarded as such.
Mustapha Salifu also denied the allegation that generators at the maternity ward have broken down due to lack of frequent servicing of the generators.
The Korle-bu Teaching Hospital PRO noted that all ten generators in the hospital are working and are in good conditions.
