A theologian and Islamic scholar, Dr Al-Hussain Zakaria has underscored the need for peace and stability to be preserved in the Northern Region, before, during and after the December general election.
According to him the country needs to preach peace at all times, especially during electioneering period since tension is normally high during elections.
Dr Al-Hussain was speaking at a public lecture organized by an event management organization base in Tamale, the ‘Plus One Entertainment’.
Dr Al-Hussain called for an end to intra religious conflicts in the Northern Region stressing that religious division has contributed greatly to the retarded development of the Northern Region.
Touching on politics in the Northern Region, Dr Al-Hussain lamented about large numbers of pavilions in the metropolis which gives the youth the advantage to engage in violence.
He said Members of Parliament who are expected to serve as mentors for the younger generation have ended up inciting the youth to engage in various crimes and violence in their quest to gain political power.
On chieftaincy, Dr Al-Hussain expressed concern about the increasing perception of people aligning every conflict in the region to the Abudus and Andanis.
He therefore cautioned political parties to desist from using chieftaincy disputes in the Northern Region to score cheep political points.
