Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt jnr. has condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for referring to President Mahama and Vice President Amissah-Arthur as spare tyre.
Speaking on Radio Gold’s current affairs programe Alhaji and Alhaji on Saturday, Mr. Kwesi Pratt explained that in the analysis of the NPP with regards to the state of the economy, they chose to dwell on the depreciation of the value of the cedi.
He said “this is obviously a dishonest analysis. This analysis sends out a certain signal that when we talk about the economy of Ghana today, the only thing the opposition can continuously say is the depreciation of the cedi. This shows that all the other economic indicators are good because if they were bad they should have spoken about it”.
Mr. Pratt stated, “we are told our current President is a spare tyre. As a spare tyre, it is only to take you home when the original tire develops problems and when you get home-which is hopefully in December- you need to change the spare tyre. This imagery says a lot about those who said it”.
He also said the NPP was referring to a rickety car which is operating in total disregard of the laws governing transportation in the country noting that “the spare tyre ought to be of a certain quality. You cannot have a spare tyre which will burst in the next five minutes. Usually the spare tyre is stronger than the tires under the wheel”.
Kwesi Pratt added that Ghana has a spare tyre which is brand new, strong and capable of taking us to our destination.
