Committee to present report on alleged ill-treatment of inmates at the Nsawam prisons

The committee set up to investigate an alleged ill-treatment involving officials of the Nsawam medium security prisons and two inmates of the prison is expected to present its report on Friday.

Reports circulating in a section of the media indicate that a prison officer, last Tuesday, ordered that cement and salt be mixed and smeared around the male organs of two inmates who were allegedly caught in a sodomy act.

This according to reports resulted in severe burns to the two who were then rushed to the Nsawam government hospital.

Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Prisons Service, ASP Courage Atsem, who spoke to Gold news when the incident occurred, said inmates of the prisons were the ones who carried the punishment and not officials as being speculated.

He however told Gold News that the committee set up to investigate the incident will by close of day, Friday, present its report.
