MTN Ghana Foundation has donated some gifts and a GH¢5000 cash cheque to the Akropong Traditional Council in support of the Odwira festival celebration.
The gifts include MTN Souvenirs, a hamper of drink and 1000 Cedis worth of recharge cards.
Mrs. Eleanor A. Sarpong, Senior Manager for Regulatory Affairs Department said the Odwira festival is a time for the people of Akropong to celebrate their rich historical past and culture.
She said the theme for this year’s celebration “Peace, Love and Unity” was appropriate as the nation prepares to for the general Elections.
Mrs. Sarpong said the stability of Ghana depends on such useful themes and critical values saying “MTN urges the people of Ghana to practically live these virtues for the sake of the peace of the nation.”
She said “Ghanaians have successfully gone through similar elections and it was time to work again to achieve a peaceful election through careful thought and actions”.
She said MTN would continue to show its commitment of deepening the relationship between the company and the people of Akropong and that MTN would sponsor major activities of the celebration which includes, the grand durbar, health walk and screening exercise, football gala and also set up stand for entertainment events, especially for the youth.
Mrs. Sarpong said as part of MTN support for the socio-economic development in the Eastern Region, the Akropong School for the Blind has been provided with some projects like a dormitory block, a special ICT Center (still under construction) and the provision of a bus.
She said MTN would continue to give back to communities through its social responsibilities and commercial promotions and would encourage all to patronize MTN’s numerous product and services.
“An attractive Akwaaba package,” she said, “awaits all those who are yet to join the MTN network within the next 120 days and new subscribers will enjoy the first minute of calls initiated daily for free,” she said.
Mrs. Sarpong said MTN recently introduced some new services including the MTN 1188 Directory Service which provides the contact information of over 30, 000 institutions and companies in the country saying “by dialing 1188, one can have access to a company’s phone details within a minute.
Nana Agyire Aggrey, Mawehene of Akropong Traditional area and special Assistant to Oseadeyeo Nana Addo Danquah III, Okuapehene, thanked MTN Ghana Foundation for their continuous support to the Akropong Traditional Council.
He appealed to other institutions to emulate the example of the Foundation and called on Ghanaian politicians to desist from using intemperate language as the elections approaches.
