Ghanaians cannot vote without CI73-Dr. Dakura

Member of Parliament for the Jirapa constituency, Dr. Francis Dakura has added his voice to the controversy surrounding the creation of 45 new constituencies by the Electoral Commission.

The main opposition party New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday held a press conference to kick against the creation of 45 new constituencies alleging that the EC is in bed with the government of the day.

Speaking on Radio Gold’s Current Affairs Programe, Alhaji and Alhaji, Dr. Dakura asserted that “the CI73 is not about the creation of 45 new constituencies alone but the 230 old constituencies. If we do not allow the EC to do its work, we will not have elections in December because the CI73 affects the 230 constituencies”.

Dr. Dakura noted that “the CI73 is a document that belongs to the EC. The duty of Parliament is to lay the document on behalf of the EC because the EC has no minister in Parliament. When Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu was the majority leader, he laid the CI on behalf of the EC”.

He also cautioned the NPP to desist from the politics of dishonesty of condemning policies that are not initiated by them.

According to him the NPP’s quest for power at all cost has led to the sabotage of the CI73 by the NPP when they changed the date of the Gazette of the CI to make the NDC unpopular, adding that “if you can’t do anything for Ghanaians tell them the truth”.
